Dangerous conditions on Welham Road

Welham Road between Graveney and Furzedown Schools has long-standing traffic issues. There have been too many near-misses and accidents involving children. We are asking Wandsworth Council to resolve these issues before someone is seriously hurt.

We, the undersigned, urgently call on the Council to install permanent road traffic-calming measures at the Chillerton Road end of Welham Road to prevent vehicles (with the exception of delivery and emergency vehicles) from entering Welham Road while allowing the free passage of pedestrians and cyclists, and to convert that stretch into an attractive pedestrianised area which the schoolchildren and wider community can enjoy. Welham Road is a public road and measures would need to balance the right of the public to freely pass at all times and the right of the children to be safe from traffic and air pollution caused by idling engines.

Further, we call on the Council to investigate what wider measures can be introduced to tackle school-related congestion on the Nimrod Road and Chillerton Road junctions with Welham Road.
