Working for: Tooting CLP
Salary: 3 days a week (£24-26,000 gross per annum, pro rata)
Tooting Labour Party is recruiting an organiser to lead its campaigning activity across the constituency for the upcoming local elections in 2018. This is an exciting but demanding opportunity to work as part of a team aiming to elect Labour councillors in key wards. The role will be key in contributing to a wider Borough wide effort to take overall control of Wandsworth Council, a flagship Tory Borough since 1978.
Tooting (recently described as the 10th coolest neighbourhood in the world by Lonely Planet) is an ethnically diverse, vibrant community. The constituency has been Labour since it was formed and at the last General election our excellent MP, Rosena Allin-Khan increased Sadiq’s (now London Mayor) previous parliamentary majority of 2,800 to almost 15,500! We have a young and educated constituency but it is also one of the most unequal, with pockets of poverty alongside some of London’s most expensive housing. The membership base here is well-motivated and very active, with 2000 members, almost half of which contributed to the General election campaign at some point.
Tooting is only a 25 minute underground ride from Westminster, and has recently hosted visits from Tom Watson, the Deputy Labour Leader, Kier Starmer and other high profile Labour MPs and personalities such as Owen Jones and Eddie Izzard.
Initially we are proposing that the post is part-time for 3 days equivalent (approx 25 hours) to take up post as soon as possible until May 31st 2018, although dependent on the successful candidate’s performance it is possible that the post may either be extended to full-time or past the end of May or both.
This would suit someone who wants to gain experience as a CLP organiser in a vibrant and active constituency. The post holder will work in Rosena’s Office in Tooting.
Remuneration for this part-time post will be £24-26,000 per annum (pro rata) = (£11-12 per hour). Flexible working, including weekend and evening work, will be required.
